Archaeocake! Get baking this summer to celebrate the Festival of Archaeology!

To celebrate an amazing summer of archaeology, we’re running a fantastic baking competition! Bake your own real life heritage or archaeological site and email a picture to us, to be put on the Festival Instagram page.

There are two categories: ‘13 and under’ and ‘14+’

For both categories, the challenge is to create a baked version of your favourite archaeological or heritage site, discovery, archaeologist, or fictional archaeology hero

Terms & Conditions

1. CLOSING DATE: The last day to send in submissions for the competition is 31st August 2017.

2. Your baked creation can be a dig site, a discovery, a heritage site, a recreation of past times, an archaeologist or fictional archaeology hero

3. Prizes to be announced.

4. Entrants must be aged 13 or under or 14+ on the closing date of 31st August. There is no upper age limit!

5. Each entrant may submit up to five entries.

6. To enter, email a picture of your creation to Shortlisted entries will be uploaded to the Festival Instagram account at

7. Your email should include your name and age (on 31st August), and a caption. If you are sending multiple entries, please send one email and caption per email.

8. If you are under 16, please confirm in the email that you have permission from a parent/carer to enter.

9. All images entered must be the original work of the entrant.

10. The winning entries will be judged by the Festival of Archaeology team and colleagues. The judges’ decision will be final.

11. Copyright of the images will remain with the entrant, though the Council for British Archaeology and the Young Archaeologists’ Club will be granted non-exclusive rights in perpetuity for publication, digitisation, exhibition and broadcast. This may include the granting of reproduction rights to selected third parties for promotional or other uses.

12. All images are submitted at the entrant’s own risk.

13. By entering this competition, you agree that your entry may be used by the Festival of Archaeology and the Council for British Archaeology, including but not limited to, our websites, Facebook pages and Twitter account.

14. Entry to the competition confirms acceptance of the above rules.
