Come along to our Festival of Archaeology Open Day to learn more about the archaeology of the local area. After the success of last years event, the festival is back and we have even more activities for you to take part in!

There are lots of interactive, hands on activities to get involved with:

- archaeological artefact handling tables
- flint knapping demonstration
- iron smelt in a reconstruction of an Age Bloomery Furnace (help bellow and crush the ore, then see us birth the iron bloom at 3pm!)
- excavate through replica coprolite and find out what people ate in the past
- investigate Stone Age food and clothing (get hands on and dress up)
- aretacts on display from Sykehouse (first time on display!)
craft activities
- create Bronze Age style pinch pots to take home

There will also be a talk about Sykehouse and the archaeology of the area at 1pm

There will also be a number of stalls including face painting, ice cream and sweets.

This year we are focusing on the local Archaeological site of Sykehouse, which has evidence ranging from the Stone Age through to Anglo-Saxon. Come along to see and handle archaeological artefacts from the site and find out ways you could get involved with future projects!
